75 Years On the Trail
The Sons of the Pioneers are celebrating a heritage of being the Icons of Western Music for 75 years. Their rich harmony and unique voicing gives the group a one-of-a-kind brand that is distinctive and readily recognizable. Some say their original members Roy Rogers, Bob Nolan and Tim Spencer created the sound known as Western Music. Doug Green of the popular "Riders in the Sky" said, "Any of us who sing western music...it all goes back to the Pioneers." The Pioneers have been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Cowbow Hall of Fame, the Texas Swing Hall of Fame and designated "National Treasures" by the Smithsonian Insitute. The quality of their music today remains the "gold standard."
The six man group is a blend of heritage and new blood. Forty-year member and "trail boss" Luther Nallie along with thirty-year member Gary LeMaster anchor the group. The four younger members have their own impressive credentials. Ricky Boen is the 1983 World Champion fiddle player. Ken Lattimore holds a degree in music. Before joining the group Mark Abbott was a sought after studio musician and Randy Rudd was a top vocalist in Las Vegas and Branson venues.
